Project overview

Under the Cyber Security Project delivered for SEDAŞ we renewed the protection, control and communication infrastructure of 152 substations. The existing SICAM TM CP-6014 and CPCX65 RTU systems were removed and replaced with Hitachi Energy RTU530 systems. The existing SIEMENS 7SJ62 protection relays were replaced with 610 ABB REX615 relays, parameterisation was carried out and IEC 61850 based communication integration was established.

SEDAŞ Cyber Security Project

01 Scope

  • Renewal of the protection, control and communication infrastructure at 152 substations
  • Removal of Siemens SICAM TM CP-6014 and CPCX65 RTUs and installation of Hitachi Energy RTU530 systems
  • Panel installation, cabling and RTU configuration
  • Installation and parameterisation of 610 ABB REX615 relays replacing Siemens 7SJ62 protection relays
  • IEC 61850 based communication integration
  • Commissioning of the communication infrastructure and SCADA integration

02 Technologies used

  • Hitachi Energy RTU530
  • ABB REX615
  • Siemens SICAM TM CP-6014 / CPCX65
  • Siemens 7SJ62
  • IEC 61850

03 Baratoprak's responsibility

  • Removal of existing RTUs and relays
  • Installation, cabling and configuration of the new RTU systems
  • Relay parameterisation and IEC 61850 integration
  • Secondary injection and trip testing
  • End-to-end field testing of status, alarm and control signals

04 Project scale

152 substations, 152 RTU migrations and 610 protection relays — part of our work across 439 substations on the SEDAŞ network.

05 Result

The RTU and protection infrastructure of 152 substations was moved to new-generation systems; protection functions were verified with secondary injection, and the correct transfer of every status, alarm and control signal to SCADA was confirmed through end-to-end field testing.
